In the Basement Mixin' Up the Medicine

Rare early recordings by Bob Dylan are to be saved from perishing thanks to a grant from the organizers of the Grammy Awards. The tapes, recorded in a New York apartment in the early '60s, have been awarded a grant of just over £15,000 to save them from extinction. BBC news reports that the money will come from The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, who will transfer the tapes onto CD – which won't decrease in quality over time. Michael Greene, head of the academy, explained why the grant has been awarded. He said: "Let's face it; many times the most candid comments, the most revealing situations that people put themselves in, are in those demos." Dylan returns to the UK for shows in May.
