In a truly inspired pairing, 2003 FINALLY has a decent concert tour: indie(ish) rock heroes Super Furry Animals and Grandaddy will hit the road for a string of decent-sized club dates this fall, culminating in a triumphant two-night stand at NYC's Irving Plaza. Hallelujah!

Sonic Youth Update

Sonic Youth will open 2 shows for the recently reformed Iggy and the Stooges (featuring original members Iggy Pop, Scott Asheton, Ron Asheton, and new bassist Mike Watt) at Jones Beach in New York on August 8th and at the DTE Music Theater in Detroit on August 14th. In other live news, Guided by Voices, Bob Mould, and others will join Sonic Youth at the Goose Island Festival in Chicago on August 15th. Tickets for both are on sale at TicketBastard.com. Lastly, Sonic Youth's 1992 landmark album, Dirty, is to be released as a quadruple vinyl boxed set in September 2003 on Goofin/SYR. The deluxe edition release adds numerous b-sides and 11 never-before released rehearsal recordings to the original track listing.

Twenty six year old chanteuse/songwriter/pianist Charlotte Martin (see Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Aimee Mann, Joni Mitchell, PJ Harvey, etc) will release her new album In Parentheses on August 5th. Charlotte also just teamed up with Pete Yorn, playing piano for his latest album and has a song in the movie "Sweet Home Alabama." Stay tuned for some audio.

Furnance Fest features Hum - yes, I said Hum

Ben EP Folds

Ben Folds has just finished a 5-song EP entitled Speed Graphic that will be released "in the next couple of days" via his website. He is also in the process of finishing another EP, entitled Sunny 16, to be released in September, and a third EP will be recorded for release in November. This will all be followed up by a full-length CD that will come out at the beginning of the year.

Don't Hurt Jack

Seems like we should have told you this by now, but apparently not. White Stripes frontman Jack White was recently involved in a car crash that ended with White suffering a broken finger in 2 places. As a result, the band has been forced to cancel 2 months of tour dates.
