Author Rob Jovanovic will be releasing a new Nirvana book later this Fall entitled, "Nirvana: Recording Sessions". The book contains interviews with the engineers, producers, collaborators and others involved with the band as they went through the recording process over the years. The book will also include a discography of Nirvana's works, radio interviews, a history of their concerts and a list of cover songs the band performed over the years.

A Perfect Circle have announced that the first single from their upcoming new album, Thirteenth Step, will be the track "Weak and Powerless". The single will impact radio on August 4th, while the album comes out on September 16th.

Gov't Rebirth

Warren Haynes will go out on the road this fall with Gov't Mule with an unannounced new bassist on the Rebirth of the Mule Tour (dates are given to you. follow the red brick link). The new bass player will permanently fill the shoes of Allen Woody, who died of a heart ailment in August 2000.

Bell is A Space Twin

During Weezer's time off last winter, guitarist Brian Bell worked with his other band, the Space Twins, and the work paid off. Their first full-length album is The End of Imagining, a twelve-song album with song titles like "Rust Colored Sun" to "Trudy Truelove" and features guest musicians like former Jellyfish member Jason Falkner and Arlo bassist Shmedly on piano. Fatboy Slim is remixing the Rolling Stones' 1968 oft-covered "Sympathy for the Devil", and he was allowed to do so because the Glitter Twins (Mick Jagger and Keith Richards) liked his earlier remix of the Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." The Neptunes (will they ever go away?) and Full Phat are also working on remixes of "Sympathy," which will be grouped with Fatboy Slim's and released in Europe before the U.S.

Don't Knock the Youth

The first Don't Knock The Rock Festival launches what will be an annual three-day film and music event celebrating the historical rock and roll/cinematic roots of Hollywood. Sonic Youth will headline the festival on Sunday, August 17th at The El Rey Theatre. The night also features Neil Hagerty & The Howling Hex, Dead Meadow, and Erase Errata. Five years after leaving Dropkick Murphys to pursue life as a Boston firefighter, original Dropkick Murphys singer Mike McColgan is back with his new band the Street Dogs. Their debut album, Savin Hill, will street on September 23rd, and is loaded with special appearances by artists such as Dicky Barrett of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Ken Casey and Al Barr of Dropkick Murphys. Azure Ray have finished their next full-length album, Hold on Love. The band is said to have taken a more upbeat and enlivened technique on this album, and is describing the music as, "so visceral and intimate you can hear lips pulling apart and piano hammers striking." Saddle Creek will release Hold On Love October 7th preceded by The Drinks We Drank Last Night CD single on September 9th. A full US tour with Crooked Fingers is expected soon.

Denali Finishes Up New Album

Denali have once again updated ther study journal and revealed that they will be joining Rainer Maria in September for a three week U.S. tour, followed almost immediately by another U.S. tour of their own beginning mid-October, and stopping in NYC for CMJ where they will headline the Jade Tree showcase. The release date for their new album, The Instinct is set for October 28th on Jade Tree.
