David Bowie is encouraging his fans to mix his classic songs with songs from his latest album Reality to create a "mash-up," ala The Grey Album. He and Audi have teamed up for a contest where the creator of the top mash-up will not only have their song released as an mp3, but will also win an Audi TT coupe. Music from his new album as well as mixing software is available for download on Bowie's website.

Free Kick Ass Concert

According to Billboard, Death Cab For Cutie, Blonde Redhead, Har Mar Superstar, TV On The Radio, the Constantines, the Fiery Furnaces, the Fever, the Ponys and Your Enemies Friends are the first acts confirmed for the Siren Music Festival. The event will be held July 17 at Coney Island in Brooklyn, N.Y. Admission is free; more acts will be announced.

Houston Goes Cold Turkey

It now seems to be official that Houston have broken up. The band will play a final show on June 26th in the legendery First Avenue main room in Minneapolis. Janis Figure will be co-headlining the bill and tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. Read below for more details on the band members other projects.

Merge Records has announced a 4-night 19-band birthday bash for themselves to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the label. Events will take place from July 29th through August 1st, with shows at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC and the Carolina Theatre in Durham NC. The performers for each night of the event are listed below along with ticketing info. The label will also be releasing a compilation entitled, Old Enough To Know Better (out July 13th) to celebrate this milestone.

Pogues Frontman Attacked

Former Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan got into a pub brawl with a couple of blokes Monday evening in London. The 46-year-old suffered a fractured cheekbone in the incident but decided to leave the hospital without treatment. No word on any motive.

Corgan's Fair, Chicago, 2004

Billy Corgan performed his first solo show the other night in Chicago at The Metro, where the Smashing Pumpkins had first started out. He performed a 15 song set and the stage was set up like a living room setting, and audience members were given lyric books upon admission. On hand was Jimmy Chamberlain, seated in the balcony, who Corgan promised he would work with again.

You Know She's Right

Gillian Gaar, a close friend of Nirvana, has written an article for the May 2004 issue of Mojo Magazine. In the article, she attempts to document the final recording session the band did 10 years ago in January of 1994 at Bob Lang's studio in Seattle. This final session would yield the song "You Know You're Right", which appeared on Nirvana's 2002 greatest hits package.

A new estrogen-fueled tour has been announce called Chicks With Attitude. Liz Phair will headline and be joined by Nina Pearson (Cardigans) and newcomers Katy Rose and Charlotte Martin. No dates have been made official. But ladies, seriously, you gotta find a better name for this thing.

Don't ask us how, but Morrissey has somehow persuaded the New York Dolls to reunite. Izzy Stradlin, the original guitarist for Guns N Roses, will be playing the late Johnny Thunders' part in the reunion. It will be at the Meltdown Festival, happening from June 11-27 in London.

High Demand For Mars

The Mars Volta have announced an additional show in Los Angeles because of the high demand and quick sell-out for the already planned show @ The Wiltern Theater. The new show will be on May 12th, also @ The Wiltern Theater. A special pre-sale starts this Thursday, April 22nd at 4:00 PST and you will need the password "James".
