Rhino Records is releasing Left of the Dial: Dispatches from the '80s Underground on October 5th. It's four discs chock full of great bands like the Replacements, Minor Threat, Husker Du, the Jam, the Smiths, R.E.M. and Sonic Youth. International superstars The Strokes are going to be back in the studio for their third album. Manager Ryan Gentles assures fans that they will once again be working with producer Gordon Raphael. The band will be recording everything they do over the next year or so and then pick the best for the album, which should be out in late 2005. A collection of really weird videos is about to be released on DVD by Warp Records. Showcasing some of the freakiest videos in their 15-year history (including vids from Aphex Twin, LFO, Broadcast and Plaid), some of which have never been released commercially, Warp Vision: The Videos 1989-2004 will be in stores Sept 21st.

Whisky Tango Ghost is the name of singer/songwriter Tanya Donelly's new album. The founding member of Throwing Muses, Breeders and Belly will release her third solo effort July 26th and play a handful of dates on this side of the pond in August.

If you didn't read the interview we told you about with Jack White of The White Stripes you may not know that the band is planning to release a b-side compilation consisting of tracks from their previously released 7"'s as well as a slew of material from their Italy catalog. Also look forward to a live DVD in the not too distant future.

In the wake of Alex Kaprano's current band, Scottish darlings Franz Ferdinand, having such a good run of it, Kaprano's former bandmates in Karelia are re-releasing the album they made together in 1997, called Divorce At High Noon, in the UK. Perhaps we'll find out why Alex found a new band.

Apple officially reached the 100 million mark of songs downloaded today. Kevin Britten of Hays, Kansas bought the 100 millionth song and won a 17-inch PowerBook, a 40GB iPod and a gift certificate for 10,000 iTunes songs. No doubt his first free download will be "Some Guys Have All the Luck."

On July 17th at the Avalon in Hollywood there will be another Axis of Justice Concert featuring: Jurassic 5, Pete Yorn, Serj Tankian (of System of a Down), The Nightwatchman (Tom Morello and Brad Wilk of Audioslave), Ray Witter and special guests. Tickets went on sale Thursday, July 1st thru Ticketmaster.

Rock Through Time, a two-day concert on Sept 17-18 sponsored by Miller Brewing Company, will feature performances by The Strokes, Velvet Revolver, Ben Folds, Lenny Kravitz, James Brown and others.
