Sub Pop scores another one

Today it was announced that Sleater-Kinney have signed to the ranks of Sub Pop. The band amicably split from Killrockstars and report that they were just looking to do something new. Producer Dave Fridmann will be working with the band on their record record, which they begin recording November 5th in NYC. Be sure to catch them at Madison Square Garden on New Years Eve (seriously).

Nirvana Box Set Details

The word is out on the upcoming Nirvana box set. Although it hasn't been officially announced yet, word is the set will be 4 discs and will have the track listing below. Look for the boxset in stores on November 23rd.

Red-Head Scot Urges You to Vote

Garbage singer and again red-head Shirley Manson will join the National Organization for Women (NOW) at a rally in support of presidential candidate George Bush... Nah, just kidding- You know it's Kerry- Friday afternoon at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Not that Manson's a U.S. citizen or anything, but hey, whatever.

Raphsody in Blondie Pictures

A documentary about photographer Mick Rock's work with Blondie, aptly named Picture This: Blondie and Debbie Harry, will premiere at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival. The pictorial also has perpetual Blondie lover R.E.M. flailer Michael Stipe.

Cat Power: The Nature Girl

An "art piece" commissioned by Cat Power in the form of a DVD + CD combo called Speaking For Trees: A Film by Mark Borthwick will be released and is a nearly 2-hour long film of Cat Power playing solo outdoors, roaming around in nature.

Kathleen and Gloria say VOTE!

Activist Gloria Steinem will join Le Tigre at their shows Wednesday in Pittsburgh and Friday in Philadelphia. Steinem, a friend of Le Tigre frontwoman Kathleen Hannah, is in the midst of a swing-state tour to encourage people to vote.

UNC-Charlotte is going to be offering a course beginning in January entitled "Examining 'American Idol' Through Musical Critique." Yes, folks, the tv talent show (wha?) is getting its own college course now. I suppose it could be worse...though I'm not sure how.

POT USA On The Way

The Presidents of the United States of America will invade "Last Call with Carson Daly" for a five-day run starting November 3rd. The band will be performing in support of their new album, Love Everybody. In other POT USA news, on Nov. 2nd the band will re-release their self-titled 1995 debut and include 6 re-mastered bonus tracks and a DVD with videos, etc. Also, for you hard-core fans, The President's are simultaneously re-releasing 2000's Freaked Out and Small, which has never actually been released.

Re-Franz Ferdinand

The US is getting a treat on Nov 23. Franz Ferdinand will re-release their wildly successful debut record as an expanded edition with two discs, including UK b-sides "Oh For You, Sophia," "Words So Leisured," "Shopping For Blood," and "Van Tango," other previously unreleased tracks and a new recording of "This Fire." I can hardly contain myself!
