The major label debut from Hot Hot Heat has been finished (produced by Dave Sardy) and is entitled Elevator. We've got a tenative list of songs to be included on the disc and we've heard that Warner Bros is looking at a release sometime in March. We'll keep you posted.

Abandoned Pools not so abandoned anymore

According to their official site, Abandoned Pools have signed with Universal Records to release their follow-up to Humanistic. The disc will be produced by Gareth Jones (Interpol, Depeche Mode, Clinic) and hopefully will be released in Spring 2005. Strangely the band has also announced that Meat and Potatoes will be responsible for the album artwork again.

Frances The Mute Speaks Up

According to Inertiatic the forthcoming Mars Volta record, Frances The Mute, will contain a full-on 77 minutes of seamless music. The supposed first single will be "The Widow" (with accompanying video) and we've got a tracklist that might be right, might be completely speculative. Either way it's fun to look at.

All About Morrissey

On the heels of his sold out US tour, Morrissey will release a deluxe edition of You Are the Quarry on December 7th. The CD/DVD combo set will contain all of You Are the Quarry and an additional nine b-sides, only six of which have been released in the US. The DVD will showcase Morrissey's three live performances on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn in July of this year, the hit videos for "Irish Blood, English Heart" and "First of the Gang to Die," and a 29 picture tour photo gallery.

Man of Many Talents

Mos Def is back on the road in support of The New Danger with a club tour to kick off on December 4th in St. Louis Missouri. In addition to the album, Mos Def recently finished work on the Disney film The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which will hit theaters in 2005. Def’s next motion picture release, The Woodsman is set for release on December 24th, 2004.

The Doves eye new release

Looks like the Doves will have a new album out on March 1st of 2005. New songs are expected to debut at the bands first live gigs in over a year this Christmas in London.

Happy Valentine's day to the Shiny Happy People! Well, I know it's a bit early, but just a heads up: R.E.M. will reissue their entire Warner Bros. catalog on February 15th (that's Green to Around the Sun), with each two disc set including the original album and a bonus DVD featuring the record remixed in 5.1 surround sound, as well as Time Piece, an old unreleased documentary with band interviews and commentary about R.E.M.'s bigger songs.

Rocking With Stubbs the Zombie

According to RollingStone.com, Ben Kweller, The Flaming Lips, The Raveonettes, Death Cab for Cutie, Cake and The Dandy Warhols will all be covering oldies for Stubbs the Zombie: The Soundtrack, due out on March 15th. The compilation provides the audio backdrop for a video game set in 1959 in fictional Punchbowl, Pennsylvania.

The performance is from the band’s September sold-out, two-night run at the world famous Troubadour in Hollywood, CA.
