Great Northern - Trading Twilight for Daylight

Reviewed by gbowles

Trading Twilight for Daylight is just a bit too endearing for its own good. While the songs are simple and to the point, they ultimately leave vapid thoughts in your head. On the surface, the album comes off as being gleeful indie pop, but just beneath are torn emotions lingering from past relationships. Male and female vocals make this more believable, and the album does get better after the first listen, although not by much. Great Northern lack the energy and charisma of a band like the New Pornographers, a close kindred spirit. The band members are fashionable and attractive but musically, pretty dull.
