At 3:30 p.m. EST, MTV Canada launched with a new flagship show, Select. Instead of debuting with a music video (like how MTV USA began with the playing of the Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star") to set the tone for the future, viewers instead saw MTV Canada celebrate its birthday with Select, a 90-minute, cross-country program hosted by Toronto's Exan Auyong (formerly of YTV) and Vancouver's Brad Leggatt. Although the program features the usual music videos, news bites and interviews, its focus is on a wider world of 'youth culture.' Great, another MTV.
