ACLU Freedom Concert Line up Expands

Wyclef Jean and The Black Keys have recently joined the all-star line up of artists, musicians and actors scheduled to perform at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Freedom Concert at Lincoln Center on October 4th. Much more info below.

One of the premiere events of the fall and political season, the ACLU Freedom Concert produced by composer Philip Glass, will feature music and spoken word performances by some of the most important names in entertainment. The all-star lineup includes Mos Def, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Nanci Griffith, Lila Downs and Philip Glass. Robin Williams, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jake Gyllenhaal, Sean Penn, Tony Kushner and Sarah Jones will also be performing special spoken-word performances and creative interpretations of some of "ACLU 100 Greatest Hits"- landmark Supreme Court decisions over the past 50 years in which the ACLU has played a major role as direct counsel or as a "friend of the Court." Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets will be on sale online at www.lincolncenter.org and at the Avery Fisher Hall Box Office (Monday - Saturday, 10am - 6pm, Sunday, noon to 6pm, or through CenterCharge, 212-721-6500.

Included in the program will be a special tribute to Lenny Bruce produced by Hal Wilner, long-time music director of Saturday Night Live. Using archival television clips from the 60's and rare film footage, along with audio recordings and stills, the evening will present an elegant distillation of Bruce's best comic moments with his eloquent statements on the importance of free speech.
