The Smiling Non-Empty Soul
Reported by erun
Brian Wilson, along with lyricist/arranger Van Dyke Parks, has decided that it's time to release the Beach Boys follow-up to Pet Sounds, the elusive Smile... Like, almost 40 years after it was originally recorded. The duo are rerecording the lost record, which had been more anticipated than anything GnR ever did, for a September 28th release on Nonesuch Records.
The new recording will feature Wilson's ten-piece backing band as well as the Stockholm Strings and Horns. Wilson described the elaborate orchestral album as a "teenage symphony to God," with songs like "Heroes and Villains" "Cabinessence" and "Surf's Up." Since you already knew that Wilson performed the album in the spring, know also that Wilson's Gettin' in Over My Head hits stores June 22nd. Paul McCartney, Elton John and Eric Clapton make guest appearances. Wilson plans to play material from both albums on a summer European tour and fall U.S. tour.
