Elliot Smith's Last Recording

Tentatively planned for a fall release, the final studio release by the late Elliot Smith is being mixed right now. From the Basement on the Hill was originally to be released by Dreamworks, but they turned over all of Smith's music to the family, so it is not known who will handle it at this point. UC San Diego's Internet-only station KSDT will feature a 2-hour tribute to Smith Wednesday (4/28) beginning at 6:00pm. Also, Ben Folds has recorded a song in honor of the late singer/songwriter entitled "Late." It is slated to be on Fold's next solo album. As if that weren't enough, unreleased footage of Smith onstage will be shown at the Coachella Independent Film Festival both days this weekend at 10:00am and 10:00pm.
