Love vs. Label vs. The State

Reported by yewknee

September 5th will be the first hearing by the California State Senate regarding the "Seven-Year Statute" law regarding the amount of time an individual can be legally bound to a contract. Typically over seven years is breaking California law, but a 1987 amendment allowed labels to bind recording artists for longer. Artists such as Courtney Love, Don Henley and Metallica have sued their labels and disputed this amendment and the hearing in September will begin clarifying the ambiguity of the law. Courtney Love and Don Henley are expected to testify at the hearing.
