Abbie Hoffman they ain't

Remember those unreleased System of a Down tracks that leaked out on to the internet back in June (oh come on, we told you about them)? Well, in an effort to thwart bootleggers (and, no doubt, to give those System fans without high-speed internet access, filesharing know-how and CD burners -- yes, these people do exist -- access to the material), they're putting the tracks out on Steal This Album, to be released later this year. The compilation will also feature outtakes and demos from earlier in the band's career, some recorded before the band even had a record deal. In keeping with the whole bootlegging theme, the CD will be packaged to look like a burned CD-R with no liner notes (credits will be accessible when you pop the CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive). Says guitarist Daron Malakian about the release, "This record is like a bridge between Toxicity and our next studio record. It may give our fans a clue at the direction we're headed in."
