"not only is it the last show of the tour, but..."

Reported by ben

David Bowie, sans the Spiders from Mars, returned to the Hammersmith-Odeon in London last night for the first time in 29 years for a one-off appearance. Well, it's not called that anymore, it's the Carling Apollo, but it's still the place where in July 1973 he retired the persona Ziggy Stardust and basically fired his band in one of the more famous moments in rock history. I'm guessing no one reading this was even alive when this event occurred, but I'd bet quite a few have seen or listened to the soundtrack to Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture (which documents the '73 show and kicks ass). Anyway, this time around Bowie played 34 songs (including many Ziggy era classics) over the course of more than three hours. Not too shabby... He's going to be on tour in the states soon, but you know that already.
