Johnny Cash to cover NIN's "Hurt"

Reported by heyrevolver

Country music legend Johnny Cash announced recently that he'll be covering Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" for his next release on Rick Rubin's American Recordings. Cash isn't new to covering contemporary rock songs -- over the course of his last 3 albums for American, he's recorded versions of tracks like Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage", Nick Cave's "The Mercy Seat" and U2's "One". In a New York Times interview, he states about the song, "When I heard that song, I thought, 'That sounds like something I could have written in the 60's,' There's more heart, soul and pain in that song than any I've heard in a long time. I love it." The album will include a few more covers and some original songs. A release date has not yet been set.
