Online radio may be on it's deathbed
Reported by yewknee
While no official thumbs-up has been given a Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP) submitted a report to the US Copyright Office requesting that online radio stations pay .14 of a cent per song, per listener for broadcasts dating back to October 28, 1998. National Public Radio that webcasts won't have to pay as much, and conventional radio stations that simulcast over the web will be charged .07 of a cent per song, per listener. The fee's have yet to be accepted by the Copyright Office, or the librarian of Congress. This could be very bad news for online stations or independent webcasts.
