Blur preps for trip to Mars
Reported by yewknee
Oasis arch-nemesis Blur is gearing up for a trip to Mars... sort of. A probe named Beagle 2 is being sent to Mars sometime in June of 2003 and in order for the scientists here on Earth to know it's landed safely - they need a signal. That signal just happens to be a song from Blur. Bassist Alex James describes the song as "kind of like a musical cave paining, a ponderous, clear tune." The song is loosely based a mathematical sequence with elements from the science fiction show Dr. Who. While all this sounds quite bizarre, it has a purpose. Using a Blur song for this project not only aids the scientists in having a very clear signal from the probe, but it also raises awareness (and consequently funds) for the project.
