Elliott Smith back to his roots...

Reported by chowda

In an odd move, DreamWorks Records has told Elliott Smith that he will be allowed to release his new album, 'From the Basement on the Hill', on an independent label of his choosing. DreamWorks claims that Smith has notbeen dropped from the label, and they are planning on releasing the new album's follow up themselves. During his handfull of live shows this year, Elliott has spoken of his distaste for the music industry and it is assumed that this deal was put into works in order for Smith to get his feet back on the ground with a label that he trusts will work well with his new album. Smith funded 'From the Basement on the Hill ' himself, bringing in the Flaming Lips' Steven Drozd and Beachwood Sparks' Aaron Sperske to guest on a couple of songs.
