20 Years And One Death Sentence
Reported by heyrevolver
The death sentence given to Mumia Abu-Jamal in 1982 for the killing of police officer Daniel Faulkner was recently thrown out by US District Court Judge, William Yohn. The ruling now consititutes a new trial for Abu-Jamal in the next 180 days, or a life sentence will be issued. However, Yohn has already denied Abu-Jamal's request for a new trial. Despite the denial, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine called the decision "a cause for celebration". He continued: "The overturning of Mumia Abu-Jamal's death sentence is a tremendous victory for the cause of justice. The noose has been removed from this political prisoner's neck for the time being thanks in large measure to persistent public outcry."
