Velvet Revolver Is Here And STP Is Over

Reported by simple

According to this Rolling Stone article, the band that is Scott Weiland and former Guns n' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum are now calling themselves Velvet Revolver. The band made it official (as well as the fact that Weiland was the frontman) recently and have said that they they hope to enter a studio by September and release an album in early 2004 after hitting the road this summer for a few shows. In another interesting tidbit, when asked if Weiland's joining the band has created tension with the singer's STP bandmates, Slash says, "...as far as I now they're disbanded."

Bob on Bob

Reported by erun

Bob Dylan is notoriously camera-shy, but it seems lately that he's come out of his shell a bit... There are two films to watch: a documentary by Martin Scorsese (tentatively titled Bob Dylan Anthology) and a fictional account of Dylan's life (tentatively titled I'm Not There: Suppositions on a Film Concerning Dylan) by Velvet Goldmine director Todd Haynes. Scorsese's will focus on his early years (his university days- rare) and will feature Dylan talking about himself (double rare), and some television footage, including Dylan's 1964 appearance on the Steve Allen Show (triple rare). Expect it on PBS sometime in 2005. Haynes' movie is "impressionistic" account of the man, like that crappy Doors movie. Trust Scorsese and pray he finally gets an Oscar off this documentary. Bob's also on tour, so check the more.

Show Me the Way to the Next Whiskeytown

Reported by erun

Whiskeytown are planning a reunion after 3 years of not being... a band. Frontman Ryan Adams (yknowIloveyouNewYawk) and singer/violinist Caitlin Cary splintered it to start solo careers, but Adams recently approached Cary and her husband/drummer Skillet Gilmore, who played with the band on its first album, 1996's Faithless Street, to talk about getting together again. more Field Day fallout

Reported by ben

Because the town of Riverhead NY sucks, Bonnaroo NE has now been cancelled all together. Riverhead is the town that the Field Day Festival was supposed to take place in. Apparently the organizers of Bonnaroo NE took a look at what happened with Field Day and realized there was no guarantee that local officials wouldn't screw them over days before the event like they did to the Field Day organizers. Bands like The Flaming Lips, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Yo La Tengo, Ween, and The Dead were scheduled to take part in the event August 8-10th.

Soy un perdedor

Reported by ben

Hopefully you won't be sitting at home this Friday night, but if so, you might want to tune into some late night. First, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno will be The Blue Man Group with Gavin Rossdale of Bush handling the vocals. With any luck, he'll be bald and blue too. If you watch them play, you damn well better check out The Late Late Show to see The Eels. Apparently their album is better than the album art.

and from the best band in the world, ever...

Reported by ben

On August 4th, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds will release God is in the House, their first true DVD (please note, that is a European release date and I have no clue when or if it will be released in North America). Included in the package will be the videos for 2001's No More Shall We Part, a documentary directed by John Hillcoat about the making of that wonderful album, and best of all a full length concert from Lyon, France from 2001. Hitting 'more' will get you more info.

Commence mixing... now

Reported by yewknee

According to a post on the unofficial yet oh-so-informative fansite Selfies, the mixing of the new Self record, Ornament & Crime, will begin on June 9th and forge ahead for 2 weeks (or until it's done right). Behind the boards will be Rich Costey - a name you may not recognize, but who's work you'll definetly recognize after checking this rap sheet of works (Fiona Apple, Rage, Rival Schools, Cave-In, etc. etc.).

Sigh...more Field Day disaster...

Reported by catchdubs

The Field Day mess continues with reports that Beck took some friendly fire in the ribcage courtesy of a "local stagehand" and was unable to perform, making the already-truncated list of performers on a rainy Saturday in Jersey that much shorter.

Dave Caves In

Reported by heyrevolver

According to their website, Cave In will not appear on the The Late Show with David Letterman on June 16th, but will instead appear on Last Call with Carson Daly on the same night. The Letterman appearance has been rescheduled for sometime in July, but the date has yet to be confirmed. In other news, be sure to catch the band on the second stage during this year's Lollapalooza tour in July.
