The Other Great Casualty From Seattle

Reported by margaret

I'm ashamed to say that I'm guilty of it too, but with all of the "remembering Kurt Cobain" stuff in the press, I forgot about the other major loss in the Seattle scene from an April 5th. Layne Staley was the incredible front man for what I still consider the best overall band of that scene, Alice in Chains. There is a good article by Jon Wiederhorn that remembers him.

Self plays live and acoustic

Reported by yewknee

Typically a one-off show wouldn't be news enough to make the SU, but seeing that it's Self we'll make an exception. On Saturday, April 17th, Matt Mahaffey will be opening for Britt Daniel (from Spoon) at Spaceland in LA. Since there is no word on when the forthcoming Ornament & Cime album will see the light of day and the b-sides from their site have been exhausted, you may just wanna find a way to catch this show.
