In a bit of unexpected news, Dinosaur Jr. has announced that they will reunite for an appearance at Britain's Download Festival. The lineup will be the first time Lou Barlow and J. Mascis have played together under the moniker in 15 years. The band will likely tour Europe and possibly play some shows in the US.

Weezer embraces Playboy Mansion

Apparently Weezer has filmed the video for the first single off their upcoming album for the song "Beverly Hills." The band coupled Weezer fans with Playboy bunnies to create a "sense of alienation that many people get when they dont feel like they belong."

Dredg become Waterborne

Dredg have provided the score and original music for the film "Waterborne" directed by Ben Rekhi (also director of the bands "Of The Room" video). The film will debut at this years SXSW festival and then make its way around the country. Find out more information here or here.

In honor of John Peel it appears that the Undertones will have their song "Teenage Kicks" re-released in the original 7" format via Sanctuary Records on April 4th. The vinyl will be limited to a pressing of 1,000 - so keep an eye out.

There are really only two categories for music at the Oscars (no, I never pay attention to editing- Do the Grammys or any other music awards have a production/editing award?), which are best original song and best score. The winners this year were, respectively, "Al Otro Lado Del Río" (in the Che Guerra inspired The Motorcycle Diaries) by Jorge Drexler, and Finding Neverland, done by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek.

Ha! Tool News!

There is not really a pleathora of Tool news, but you gotta check once in awhile to see if there's *something* out there. Suprise! On 2/18/05, at a benefit concert for tsunami victims in Seattle, the three surviving members of Alice in Chains played two sets with a rotating set of vocalists: Tool's Maynard James Keenan, who sang with the band during "Them Bones," "Man in the Box," and was part of a vocal ensemble featuring Wes Scantlin from Puddle of Mudd and Nancy Wilson from Heart during "Rooster."

Another wave of mutilation

Rumors are starting to make their way across this great land we call The Internet that The Pixies will be hitting the road again sometime this year. The bands management is looking to have a tour of amphitheaters sometime in July and possibly set up some special two-shows-in-one-night performances where the band plays all b-sides, and then all hits between two sets.

Built to Spill show dates? Who knew?

Apparently Built To Spill are still around and are slowly emerging from wherever it is that they've been. We hear a new album is slated for the summer but that's all hearsay. We do know that they're playing a small handful of dates in May. Hopefully this is the start of a bigger tour.

Sun Volt, Redux

As reported, Jay Farrar was back in the studio, putting together a new Son Volt album. Guess what? He's also compiling a Rhino Records anthology for release May 24th. Alongside the band's classic album cuts, the two-CD set features demos and rarities, including covers of Woody Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen's , and Del Reeves.
